Thinking College? Think LIT
LIT is the Sunday Times Institute of the Year 2008-2009, and with good reason! We offer a wide range of programme across a number of disciplines all geared to today’s employment needs; our research income is one of the largest among the I.O.T.s in Ireland, our campuses have the most up-to-date facilities and we’re renowned for successes both academically and in the sporting arena.
Our mission is to prepare learners for productive and challenging careers; our belief in learning by doing – active learning – gives you the hands-on experience that employers are looking for so you are prepared for the theoretical and practical expectations of a job.
We have a strong history, dating back to 1852 and are continually adapting our programmes to meet the employment needs of our region, country and the international market.
One of the best parts of coming to LIT, you might ask? It has to be the choice – not only with programmes available, but with HOW to achieve what you want out of education. You can get your degree, your way! We offer both ladder-approach programmes, which will means you build-up from a base of 2 years for a Higher Certificate, add one more for a Degree, and another year for an Honours Degree; and ab-initio programmes which take three-to-four years straight for an Honours Degree – with most of these programmes offering a work placement option.
We offer programmes in:

“The freedom and flexibility to experiment on my own time with the programme, and to develop a self-guided practice around that experimentation has impacted greatly on how I have produced work over the last three years.”
Alan Boardman, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fine Art in Painting (Level 8)
“The fact that the LIT Accounting and Finance programme provided the maximum exemptions possible for entrance into the professional accountancy exams played a major factor in choosing to study at LIT.”
Samantha Keogh, Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Accounting & Finance (Level 8)
“I feel that the knowledge and experience I gained during the LIT programme gave me a head start in the interview process as well as the skills required to be a success when I was given my chance.”
Brian MacMahon, Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Business Computing (Level 8)
“Our final year project gave us the chance to put theory into use through a practical, hands-on project, with a great reward – the bus shelter we designed and built is now in use in Shannon.”

“The programme is very great if you are interested in the tourism and hospitality business. The work placement component to the programme gives you a better understanding of the theory you are learning in college.”
Eimear Laffen, Higher Certificate in Business in Front Office Management (Level 6)
“At age 48, after years of working as a TV serviceman, I enrolled in the B.Sc in Electronics; if not for the friendly and approachable staff at the LIT open day, I probably wouldn’t have returned to college.”
John Moloney, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Electronic Systems (Level 8)
