Athlone town is located in the centre of Ireland, 90 minutes journey time from the capital city, Dublin. The Institute offers internationally recognised under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes in the fields of Business, Accounting, Information Technology, Humanities, Hospitality and Tourism Studies, Engineering, and Science. Graduates from these disciplines have been very successful in progressing to further studies and obtaining relevant employment. Researchers at the Institute have established an international reputation in the areas of Software for M-Commerce, Polymer Engineering, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Science, and Cell and Molecular Toxicology.

Athlone Institute of Technology is located in the centre of Ireland. Athlone has a population of 25,000 people and is approximately a 90 minute journey from the capital city, Dublin. 
 

Academic Year: 

The academic year commences in September and finishes in June each year. The Foundation Programme is currently the only programme available to international students which has an intake in January. The Institute also organises short study abroad programmes for international students in English language and Irish Studies (Introduction to Irish History and Culture) from June to July each year.

 
Foundation Programme for International Students 

Athlone Institute of Technology launched a Foundation Programme in English language, IT, and Business for International Students in September 2000. This one-year, full-time foundation course is designed for non-EU Students who wish to pursue an under-graduate course at the Institute.

This programme will provide successful participants with:

An understanding of English usage, Computing, Basic Technology, Engineering and Business;
The opportunity of gaining entry to one of the Institute's range of Engineering, Science, Humanities and Hospitality Studies or Business Studies courses at Higher Certificate/Bachelor level for the following academic year (on successful completion of all elements of the course, including examinations).

 
Accommodation 

Accommodation can be arranged in apartments or houses near the Institute, with the assistance of the International Office. There are three privately owned student villages located within walking distance of the Institute.

A single room costs €70-80 approx. per week. Room sharing costs €55-65 approx. per week. Heating and electricity are usually extra

Non-EU Students applying for entry to under-graduate or post-graduate programmes in September should apply directly to the International Office before 1 May. Application form and entry criteria available from web site www.ait.ie
